This is a compliation of all the parts of the story B.O.Y, (a boy band in Korea) but the ending of the final part has been scrapped. When Mark, in the group BOY, meets Byeong, who turns out to be a long lost twin brother of Young, he falls for him. Will they wind up being together by the end of the story?
You get to find out about some of the members of the group, but the main focus after Byeong is introduced, is what happens between two young men when they fall for each other, except their culture frowns on this.

This is still 18+ for gay relationships.

BOY edition by John Thompson Literature Fiction eBooks

This is a collection of the four episode of B.O.Y. A Korean Boy Band series.
The series that follows the forming of a Korean boy band (B.O.Y) from its formation and into its rising fame.

I have read and reviewed every episode of this series. My review of the last one was pretty scathing. To say that I was not a `happy camper' would have been to put it mildly.
So when I seen that this series was out as a complete unit and the authors note saying it had a different ending, I debated about whether or not to pick it up. But since it was free at the time I got it, I thought I would check out this alternative ending.

In an attempt to not spoil the new ending, I will simply say "Much better, Mr. Thompson. Much better."
I give credit to the author for taking the time to improve his work with this updated ending.
While the series, (book) still struggles with the issues many self published works do (typos, general grammar issues, and some awkwardness in some of the dialog) , it does have some redeeming qualities.
The story, as a whole, is uniquely fresh and appealing to 'music reality TV' lovers.
Its take on a pop boy band with gay (teen) characters is not new per say, but certainly not overly written about either.
I liked the first person approach with different members telling part of the series.
I enjoyed the characters youthfulness and naiveté as they came to grips of their new fame.
This series does contain some gay erotica making it clearly 18+ reading material.

Having said all that, I give this book (the collection edition) 3.5 stars out of 5. Since that isn't an option, and I am pleased with the revision of the last couple chapters, I will push it up to four stars.

I will look for other works by John Thompson in the future as I can see potential in his works.

longer and better.

I have reviewed the first episode of this four-part series separately (please read that review first) and found it interesting because of the setting and the kind of story I was being given.
The inner workings of a boy band have not been dealt with in M/M fiction and, despite many reservations about writing and style, I have found the first part refreshing and new.

Instead of building on that solid ground the author chooses to go for deep and melodramatic and heartbreaking. The second part really has little to do with the story of a boy band and part three and four only deal cursorily with music and music business. Do not get me wrong, the extra content could have worked and added variety to the novel but only if the author had taken all the pages needed to do that.
As it is this short novel reads like a summary of a much longer one where many meaningful dialogues and events would be added.

That said there is another serious issue that needs to be pointed out inconsistencies.
Probably because of all the pages that should have been written and were not the characters contraddict themselves time and time again.
I will give you just an example (there are many, this is just the most relevant) with no spoilers so bear with me in part one A says he has no problems with gay people but he is not gay. At the end of part one, B kisses A saying he has a crush on him. From part two B is straight as an arrow and dates girls but A has an affair with C who is in love with A. Suddenly C forgets his love for A and falls for D.
I realize the characters are supposed to be very young but this is a bit too much.

If only the author would rewrite this novel adding all the missing pages... as it is I would only download it for free.
